Our take on the Angel revival: nostalgia and nepo-babies, with a sprinkle of sparkle and Tyla’s unforgettable performance
Hello, my ItGirls. After years in hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has finally returned, bringing a mix of old-school glamour and a fresh new vibe. But did it live up to the iconic shows of the past? Let’s just say, it’s been a journey. Grab a seat, because I’m about to give you the lowdown on everything that made us swoon—and everything that left us wanting more.
First things first: the nostalgia. I was buzzing with excitement in the run-up, and honestly, watching the show brought back memories of those golden days when the Victoria’s Secret Angels ruled the runway with larger-than-life wings and those extravagant fantasy bras. There’s something about that over-the-top glitz that just feels magical, isn’t there? From Gisele to Tyra, the Victoria’s Secret runway used to be an annual celebration of all things glamorous, an all-out spectacle with glitter and star-studded performances.

But oh, times have changed, haven’t they? This year’s show had me feeling…well, a bit underwhelmed. The outfits were cute but seemed a little lacklustre, like they’d run out of sequins halfway through. The designs had that familiar appeal, sure, but where was the wow factor? Maybe it’s because the show doesn’t hold the same social power it once did, or maybe the budget wasn’t what it used to be. Either way, I couldn’t help but notice the lack of that signature sparkle that once made the show such a standout. I mean, if they’re going to bring it back, why not go all the way?
And let’s talk about the models. Sure, we got to see some incredible new faces, and there were definitely a few seasoned stunners, but there was also a fair share of what I’d call “nepo babies.” Let’s be real, some of those wings may have been gifted by the family tree rather than the casting process. Not that I’m complaining about a bit of family legacy here and there, but come on—if you’re going to call it the comeback of the decade, don’t we all deserve a few bona fide stars who have earned those wings on merit alone?
But let’s get back to the real star of the night: Tyla. The moment she hit that stage, she commanded attention. Her performance was absolutely electric, and it was as if the runway was created just for her. I couldn’t keep my eyes off her; she brought that old-school star quality back for a few precious moments, strutting like an absolute queen and reminding everyone what a showstopper looks like. Victoria’s Secret, take note: if you want a future full of sparkles, give us more Tyla energy and let her set the vibe.
There were definitely some standout moments, don’t get me wrong. And yes, even with the toned-down budget, Victoria’s Secret still managed to put on a decent show. But you can’t help but wonder—what if they’d gone bigger? What if they’d brought back the full Angel experience, the theatrical wings, the rhinestones, the pomp and pageantry? This reboot was good, but it felt like a little taster rather than the full course we’ve all been craving.
So, here’s hoping that next year’s show (fingers crossed!) has the budget to match the brand’s legendary status. Imagine the same show but dialled up, with more of that original sparkle and charm we all miss. After all, if they’re going to reawaken the Angels, they might as well give us a proper heaven on Earth moment, right?
Until then, I’ll be replaying Tyla’s performance and waiting for the day Victoria’s Secret realises that a comeback deserves nothing less than wings—and the right to truly soar.
XOXO
